So versatile - can be eaten as a snack or a main meal. Popular toppings include - cheese, tuna mayonnaise, baked beans, chilli con carne, coleslaw or just a knob of butter.

 300 g Potato
 1 Knob of Butter
 1 pinch Salt

Preheat oven to 160ºC, Gas mark 4.

Using a pointed knife, make a cross cut into the potato no deeper than 1cm.

Place the potato (cut side up) onto a baking tray, & place it on the middle shelf of the oven for one & a half hours.

Test the potato with your pointed knife to see if it is cooked thoroughly. (The knife should slip in & out without any pressure applied).

Cut open the potato using the cross marks, squeeze the sides to open & place the knob of butter inside with the salt to season.
