Spicy Cheese Straws

Cheese Straws are always a party favourite for adults and children.

Cheese Straws
Yields25 Servings
Prep Time10 mins
 250 g Puff Pastry
 1 Egg
 75 g Grated Extra Mature Cheddar Cheese
 Drizzle of Worcester Sauce

On a floured work surface, roll your puff pastry to 30cm x 30cm.

Whisk the egg in a bowl & with a pastry brush, paint the top edge of the pastry & a further line down the centre of the pastry, left to right.

Sprinkle the grated cheddar along the painted centre line. Now drizzle the Worcester sauce along the line of cheese.

Now we are going to fold the pastry into 3. Fold the nearest edge over top of the line of cheese & then allow the top painted edge to fold on top of that, sealing down the pastry with your rolling pin. Allow the pastry to firm up in the refrigerator for one hour.

Pre heat the oven to 180ºC, Gas mark 6.

Remove the pastry from the refrigerator & on a chopping board, with the pastry's length left to right, cut 1cm batons of pastry & place them on a non stick baking tray, keeping them 1cm apart.

Place the baking tray on the middle shelf of the oven & bake the cheese straws for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned.

Place on a wire tray to cool.
