A classic rich family favourite that is easy to make, laced with ginger and dates that warms the cockles of your heart.
Grease a 1200ml (2 pint) basin.
Sift the flour, bicarbonate of soda and ginger into a bowl, then add the sugar and dates. Set aside.
Pour the milk into a saucepan, add the margarine and gently bring to the boil.
Gradually pour the milk into the bowl with the flour and mix well. Cover with greaseproof paper or foil and steam for 90 minutes.
Put the butter into a saucepan and gently heat until it has melted.
Add the sugar and cream and stir until the ingredients have combined.
Gently bring to the boil and then simmer for 5 minutes or until the sauce has thickened.
Serve the pudding hot.
